From drawing board to draining board

We have just had a long Sunday working on the personal grooming section of the wild dogz field.  A wash basin, shower cubicle complete with antechamber, hot water supply are the ideas from the drawing board.  It wasn't absolutely obvious how we were going to do this but after a days work we are well on our way to equipping the wild dogz field with an all-purpose all-weather outdoor bathroom.  And there's the loo with the view, a tin and wood palace to bodily functions with commanding views of the Bass Strait, it's beautiful!

What's all this about walking on the beach?

To get from the church to the reception, at Sarah's parent's house, is either a 5 minute drive through a paddock or a 30 minute walk along the beach.  We are planning on walking and would love as many of our guests to join us.  The last 5mins of the walk will take us through some low dunes then across a field.  This may effect your choice in footwear.  Obviously if the weather is not conclusive we will all take the bus.

Ashes rematch

We are both fans of a good sunday session so on the day after the wedding we're going to put on a BBQ and the brothers Weeding have challenged the visitors to an ashes rematch.  It turns out the recent ashes loss hasn't gone down too well in Australia.  So dig out your whites, oil up your bat and practice your around stump yorker to silly wicket.

Getting here, getting away and getting around

Getting here:

The Wedding ceremony is going to be held in Low Head and the reception at Sarah's parents farm nearby.

Low head is about 50 mins drive from Launceston and about an hour from Launceston airport.  Launceston airport receives direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney.  Virgin blue, Jet Star and Qantaslink fly to and from Launceston.  

Hobart airport is about 3.5 hours drive away.  Hobart receives direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. Virgin blue, Jet Star, Tiger and Qantaslink fly to and from Hobart. 

I want that flight compares all the airlines to give you the cheapest flight but I'd recommend booking through the specific airline's website to avoid extra fees.

The Spirit of Tasmania ferry sails between Melbourne and Devonport most nights.  A return ticket for 2 adults and a car is a little less than $800, depending on the class of your cabin.  Devonport is about 2 hours drive from Low Head.

Getting around: 

Public transport to Low Head is non existent.  There are the occasional pubic bus to George Town and George Town has a few taxis, however we reckon you should probably hire a car to avoid a lot of faffing and time wasting. 

There is not a lot in the way of decent accommodation close to the farm and as taxis can be unreliable,  we are setting up "Camp City" right near the reception so you only have a short stumble home to your tent or campervan. Why not combine your accommodation and car rental and hire a campervan?  

   

Major Coup for Top Photo Journalist

Top photo journalist Chris Crerar has got the photographers job for the wedding after I had a chance meeting when we were house sitting for the Thomas's.  Chris has returned to Tassie after a remarkable photography career which saw him in the photo editor role for The Australian and capture some incredible pictures along the way.  I met him whilst he was doing some plastering for his Dad's building firm, found him cool, arranged a drink so Sarah could suss him out, next thing she's shaking his hand and offering him the job.
When we mentioned the festival theme he said 'i'll bring my tent then'.  We are both very pleased to have booked him in, welcome Chris.

Big congratulations to me old mates Chris and John who have just got engaged, to their respective partners Dulcie and Cory I should add.  Also well done Peta and Alan for getting engaged too.

We had a lovely time at our engagement bbq last Saturday, it was a good laugh and also a good chance to trial run the party organising process for parties at the farm.  You know I reckon we can handle a wedding there.
Big up to Kirsten aka (insert dj name here) who's skills on the wheels of steel got the party jumping, side stepping and wiggling.

Mudcake

Mudcake? Mudcake anyone?
It turn's out the local baker for the wedding can only make mudcakes.  I'm not even sure what a mudcake is, a chocolate cake?
I think we'll have to see what the Launceston bakers can do.

A good reason to get married in February

Tasmania is not renowned amongst Australians for it's good weather and although it can be unpredictable the weather in Feb is historically better than the rest of the year....

Make a holiday of it

Do you know that you don't just have to turn up for the wedding and then clear off again?

If you want to stay longer then guess what, you can.  Not only that, we would encourage it.  So come and make a holiday of it.

As well as the wedding itself on Saturday 26th we will throw another party the very next day.  Your attendance at this is nearly as important as for the big day as we want to make sure we get to spend time with everyone and we love big parties.

On the farm we are creating a lush camping area so if you fancy tenting or campervanning it then you are sorted.  We are installing everything you need, from somewhere to keep your beer cool to somewhere to plug a hairdryer into.

What we are also going to arrange for your convenience are some pre-erected tents so you don't have to bring a load of stuff.

So you can use the farm as a way to have a beach holiday or as a base to go out and explore from.
